A life in which you feel confident in your own skin and capable of handling whatever life throws at you. A life in which your relationships are healthy and happy—most importantly, the relationship you have with yourself. We’re here to help.
We don’t hold the secret to a vibrant, thriving life—we share it. We teach our clients everything we know about managing mental health, so you can go from surviving to thriving. We know you don’t want to be in therapy for the rest of your life, and we don’t want you to be either. Through the lens of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), we’ll show you how to stop living in black-and-white thinking and extreme behaviour and finally find peace walking The Middle Path: A balanced life.
The founder of Modern Solutions Counselling, Dawn is a Registered Psychologist specializing in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART). What initially drew Dawn to DBT was the skills anyone can learn and benefit from. With over 15 years of clinical experience, she treats individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, addiction, Borderline Personality Disorder and trauma. Sound heavy? The skills she teaches through DBT are the same skills she relies on in both her professional practice and her personal life. She walks the talk and is always honoured when clients choose Modern Solutions Counselling as their partner in mental wellness.
Before he became a therapist, Dan was a competitive wrestler. When an injury ended his wrestling career, he went on to coach at the national and international levels. His passion for supporting people to achieve their goals became the springboard for his second career in therapy. Today, Dan is a Clinical Social Worker with over 20 years of clinical experience. He specializes in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART).
Sarah is a Registered Psychologist, passionate about helping people achieve their goals. She specializes in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and serves our clients in the evenings. In her downtime, you can find her wakesurfing on the lake with her husband or crafting with her two cats by her side—successful projects include but are not limited to making seasonal wreaths for her front door, knitting hats for her cats, and painting (by numbers, to be fair).
As a Registered Clinical Social Worker, Chaya specializes in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR). She serves our clients virtually and on weekends. And when she’s not working, you can find Chaya in the great outdoors—or indoors, baking indulgent desserts for family gatherings. She gets a kick out of the chaos of having a family of young kids, and still makes time for things she loves, like baking and teaching herself the guitar.
Nicola is both a Registered Occupational Therapist and the co-founder of wellness company, RYP Naturals: Makers of organic fruit and vegetable powders. Working at both our North and South clinics, Nicola helps clients find a way to get back to their everyday tasks and the activities they love when their health has prevented them from doing so. The activities Nicola loves? Soccer, weekends away, and hosting (when she’s not working, she’s probably searching appetizers on Pinterest).
A Registered Counselling Therapist with over 17 years of clinical experience in mental health and addictions, Sara specializes in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART). From a young age, Sara knew she wanted to help others live more meaningful lives. Her clients, friends and family all tell her she has a grounding presence and a natural ability to listen to and validate others’ experiences. She jokes she must have “therapist” tattooed on her forehead because even strangers are comfortable opening up to her!
A Registered Counselling Therapist with over 30 years of clinical experience, Abby specializes in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and she’s a Certified Master Accelerated Resolution Therapist. Hailing from Scotland, Abby and her family moved to Canada in 2008 in the name of adventure. When her kids asked, “What if the adventure doesn’t work out?”, Abby replied, “If we’re open to our experience, our adventure will be a success—even if it doesn’t work out as we expect.” And she believes the same is true of your experience.
Michelle brings lived experience of recovery to her 20 years of mental health experience, creating an authentic therapeutic environment. She’s not afraid to speak her mind and is bursting with compassion. Michelle specializes in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), treating trauma and addiction. She has a small obsession with trees and can be found camping with her husband, kiddos, and big Bernese mountain dog, Charlie Brown, on the weekends.
Nishant is a Registered Provisional Psychologist, focusing on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), and Existential Therapy with experience ranging from residential in-patient treatment to not-for-profit healthcare. His practice specializes in addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders, helping clients face uncertainty, conflict and death with his direct but empathetic, trauma-informed approach. Outside of therapy, Nishant has a penchant for all things music and obscure horror movies.
